Meet Nicole, she/her

Nicole is a Licensed and Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. Nicole is currently accepting new patients.

Nicole Federica, MS, RD, LD

Originally from Northern New Jersey, Nicole attended American University in Washington D.C. where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, inspired to disseminate accurate health information through medical writing. She returned to academia to complete her Master of Science in Nutrition and Food Science at Montclair State University, as her goals evolved from not only sharing nutrition-driven health information, but actively working to improve health outcomes through direct patient care. She then completed her dietetic internship at Virginia Tech. Nicole has been providing nutrition education and counseling since 2017, assisting various patient populations from pediatrics to middle adulthood with a variety of concerns. She specializes in endocrine disorders such as thyroid diseases, prediabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and adrenal fatigue, women’s health-related complications such as PCOS, weight management, picky or selective eating, autoimmune disorders, sports nutrition in college athletics, and relationships with food. She joins the Potomac Nutrition team having recently worked in Maternal Fetal Medicine where she provided medical nutrition therapy to high-risk obstetrical patients during preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum.  Nicole also has a strong interest in perimenopause and menopause concerns.

With a strong belief in the power of preventative medicine through whole foods nutrition, she aims to empower patients to improve their overall health by working through their specific health goals. When we feel our best, it has the power to create a positive ripple effect into so many areas of our lives. She believes there is no one-size-fits all approach to nutrition, which is why patients receive tailored nutrition plans rooted in patient autonomy and sustainable changes over time.

Outside of work, she enjoys being physically active via yoga, hiking, and strength training as well as trying new restaurants and local cafes as she believes that food is not only nourishment, but it is also cultural, a reflection of traditions, and means for social gatherings.  Recognized for her dedication to each individual, she prioritizes making her appointments both educational and enjoyable.
